Edward F. Antkowiak, age 86, of Dyer, passed away November 24, 2005.
He was born in Whiting, IN on August 26, 1919 to the late Martin and Antonia
Antkowiak. Edward was a resident of Dyer since 1955 and a lifetime member of the
VFW Post 6448 in Dyer. He served in the Army during WWII as a medical technician in Africa
and in Italy. Edward received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon
with two Bronze Stars. He also received the WWII Victory Medal and the American
Theater Ribbon. As a member of the VFW in Dyer, Ed was chairman of the House Committee and
served on that committee for 19 years. He was also a member of the Brunswick
American Legion Post 485 for fifty years.
Edward retired from Union Carbide in 1975. He belonged to the Oil, Chemical and
Atomic Workers International Union, where he served as a union steward. Ed was also
a landscaper, establishing Ed's Landscape Service in Dyer in 1969. |
